Dynamic Edit
Dynamic Editing allows the user to move an edge or node (typically a corner or vertex) of a Room or Object, to remove an existing node, or to add anode to the midpoint on an edge. For important background information, click the Concepts button at the top of this article.
To Move an Edge or a Node
- From the main toolbar, select Modify - Dynamic Edit - Move Edge or Node, and then select Any Type, Object, or Room. Or, from the Rooms/Objects Toolkit, click on the down-arrow next to the Dynamic Edit button, select Move Edge or Node, and then select Any Type, Object, or Room. The appropriate Snap To options will automatically be enabled for the duration of the command (click Concepts tab, above, for more information).
- 2D Editing (edges or nodes): For edges, this moves the selected surface and all attached surfaces. For nodes, this moves the edge of the surface(s) that are attached to the node.
- When the cursor pickbox is placed over a Node or over the midpoint of a surface edge, the EndPt or MidPt Snap To icon will be displayed, as appropriate. Click on that point to select it.
- Drag the node or edge to the desired location and click again.
- 3D Editing (only for nodes): This moves only the endpoint of the surfaces attached to the node.
- Press the Ctrl key.
- When the cursor pickbox is placed over a Node, the EndPt Snap To icon will be displayed. Click on that point to select it.
- Drag the node to the desired location and click again.
- From the main toolbar, select Modify - Dynamic Edit - Add/Remove Node, and then select Any Type, Object, or Room. Or, from the Rooms/Objects Toolkit, click on the down-arrow next to the Dynamic Edit button, select Add/Remove Node, and then select Any Type, Object, or Room. The appropriate Snap To options will automatically be enabled for the duration of the command (click Concepts tab, above, for more information).
- Placing the cursor pickbox over the midpoint of an edge will cause the MidPt Snap To icon to be displayed. Click to add a node at this location..
Note: To Add a node while in the Move Edge or Node command, simply hold down the Shift key and select the edge midpoint where you would like to add the Node. See table below.
To Remove a Node
- From the main toolbar, select Modify - Dynamic Edit - Add/Remove Node, and then select Any Type, Object, or Room. Or, from the Rooms/Objects Toolkit, click on the down-arrow next to the Dynamic Edit button, select Add/Remove Node, and then select Any Type, Object, or Room. The appropriate Snap To options will automatically be enabled for the duration of the command (click Concepts tab, above, for more information).
- 2D Editing: This will remove the entire edge that this node represents in the current view.
- Placing the cursor pickbox over a node will cause the EndPt Snap To icon to be displayed. Click to remove that node.
- 3D Editing: This will remove only the particular node or endpoint that is selected.
- Press the Ctrl key.
- When the cursor pickbox is placed over a Node, the EndPt Snap To icon will be displayed. Click on that point to select it.
Note: To Remove a node while in the Move Edge or Node command and (for 2D removal) simply hold down the Shift key and select the node to be removed. For 3D removal, hold down the Shift key and the Ctrl key at the same time and select the node to be removed.
